Award Listing -
10th
Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force
The following is a listing of
all known awards made to soldiers serving in the 10th Battalion during the First World
War. The number of awards is most impressive, especially compared to the paucity of
awards made during the Second World War for bravery and/or leadership. The
10th Battalion could boast of the first man in the entire CEF to be awarded a second Bar to the
Distinguished Conduct Medal, as well as the most awards of the Military Medal for a single
action (some sixty awards were made to 10th Battalion men for the fighting at Hill 70).
Entries in bold indicate
posthumous awards.

Meritorious
Service Medal |
The ribbon for the Meritorious
Service Medal changed twice during the First World War. Initially plain crimson (and
identical to the VC ribbon, but without the miniature cross), the white edging was added
in 1916, and a central stripe in 1917. |
