The annual
observance of St. Julien's Day was marked on Saturday 24 April
2004 with the traditional exercise of the right to the Freedom
of the City of Calgary, marching with Colours flying, pipes
playing and drums beating from Mewata Armoury to the Cathedral
of the Redeemer. Unlike 2003's freak blizzard, the weather
was perfect this year.
After the
traditional church service, including the always stirring
playing of Highland Cathedral by the church organ to
the accompaniment of the Regimental Pipes and Drums, the
Regiment reformed and marched to City Hall for a wreath laying
and Lament by the Pipe Major.
The final leg of
the Freedom of the City march took the Regiment to the Westin
Hotel for the Annual Meeting of the 10th Battalion Calgary
Highlanders Association, followed by the all ranks dinner and
awards ceremony.
Information on
the awardees may be found on the Transitions page. |
